In a Media Release by the Western Cape government's Department of Transport and Public Works on 16 October 2017, it was announced that sections of Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed from 23 October until 1 December 2017 for the re-surfacing of the roadway. Road users can expect roadworks on Chappies until December- although regular commuters and frequent users will have access during peak periods.
The reseal of the road from the Hout Bay end of the concession to Lookout Point will be tackled in half-widths, with stop/go construction. Delays of between 10 to 20 minutes will be experienced by travellers on the drive whilst this section of the road is re-surfaced.
The narrow pass section of Chapman’s Peak Drive from Lookout Point to the Noordhoek end of the pass will be closed entirely to traffic from 09:30 to 16:00 every day – i.e.: Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed to traffic (This section of the pass will be tackled towards the end of the construction period – from mid to the end of November).
Resurfaced sections will be reopened once they have been swept and all loose stones removed. Entilini apologises in advance for the delays and disruptions that road users will endure during the re-surfacing of the road, with the works being essential to ensure the longevity of the pavement into the future.
