Two road closures on #Chappies for March events in Cape Town

The 40th edition of biggest timed bicycle race in the world takes place on the 11 March 2018 - The Cape Town Cycle Tour, with some 40,000 cyclists participating in the annual event. With the MTB races and Junior races completed this past weekend, all eyes will be focused on Sunday's event and local and visiting riders will be out and about with final preparations.  Chapman’s Peak Drive is the premier training route for the upcoming Cape Town Cycle Tour. Cyclists want to train on the actual race route as much as possible,  so please be aware and considerate of an increase in cyclists on the drive.  Road safety relies on mutual respect. Motorists may not pass within 1 metre of a cyclist. Cyclists must ride in single file. Being considerate is an essential part of sharing the road and enhancing the safety of all road users.

This year the Cape Town Cycle Tour has a new start at the Grand Parade leading past Cape Town Castle, onto Nelson Mandela boulevard , on past UCT on Edinburgh Drive,  followed by a fast 25km to Simon's Town.   The route continues past Smitswinkel and the entrance to Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park, before turning north and winding through the villages of Scarborough and Misty Cliffs.   On the Cycle Tour website, the next section, which involves Chappies, is described below- don't underestimate our beautiful drive.

"Then it all gets hard again, with the flat run back to Fish Hoek straight into the South Easter softening the legs for the Chapman’s Peak/Suikerbossie double-feature to come. Chapman’s Peak is a two-part trial; Little Chappies is short and steep, but over quickly and buoyed by the spectator support at its foot. The main climb is longer, but flatter, and offers distractions aplenty (force yourself to look) as you ride one of the world’s most beautiful roads. "

From Chappies, cyclists must face Suikerbossie,  before the final stretch through Bakoven, Camps Bay, Clifton and Sea Point to the finish in Green Point.   Please see route map for the event here
