CPD CURRENT STATUS

2009-03-18

CPD has been closed since the 19 June 08, as a result of risk areas identified on the mountain above the road. These risk areas were discovered as a result of extensive monitoring of all rockfalls that occur along CPD. One of the primary responsibilities of the operator and concessionaire of CPD and Province is to ensure a safe passage between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, along the Atlantic seaboard. The threat to the safety of road users in certain areas has resulted in the road closure until further safety measures are in place.

Efforts are being made to open the road as soon as possible and to once again make the highly visited tourist attraction accessible to the Public.

One of the larger picnic sites will be allocated as a site camp for the engineering teams that will manage the remedial construction. Two other large picnic sites and the smaller lay byes remain available for use by the public.

Due to the presence of construction vehicles on the road the public, and particularly cyclists and pedestrians, are reminded to obey the rules of the road and not regard it as being free of traffic during this period.
